Carson Wentz overcame his first NFL game against the Browns last week, and gave rise to some questions as to why Cleveland passed on the quarterback in this year’s draft. Although some shrugged off week one as an ease into the NFL, week two against the Chicago Bears in Chicago was going to be the true welcome for the second overall draft choice. Wentz got the job done 21 of 34 for 190yards and 1 touch down to Trey Burton. The Eagles winning the game 29-14 with a strong showing on defence.

The Eagles controlled the game through all facets of the game running, passing and defending well. The combination of Ryan Mathews (9 Att 32 yds 2 TDs) and Darren Sproles (12 Att 40 yds) provided relief for Wentz, as he complete his passes to Jordan Mathews (6 rec/71yds), Trey Burton (5 rec/49yd 1 TD) and Nelson Agholor (4 rec/42yds). Wentz was able to keep the offense rolling allowing the Eagles to convert 3 from 3 field goals (25yd, 29yd & 53yd).

For the Bears, quarterback Jay Cutler (12 of 17 for 157yds and 1 int) felt the pressure from the Eagles front line as they managed to secure 3 quaterback sacks and two recovered forced fumbles. Cutler was sidelined due to a finger injury opening the door for Brian Hoyer (9 of 12 for 78 yards) to take control of the game during Cutler’s assessment but would not be able to covert his time into points. Jeremy Langford was one of only two Bears to score converting a 1 yard rush on offence and Eddie Royal would be the other returning a 65 yard punt.

While Wentz showed that he can hold his own against a more competitive defence, travelling Pittsburgh will prove to be difficult while the Bears will seek to contain a strong run game in Dallas.
